Each bowl delicately potted with curved sides rising to a sloped rim, painted around the exterior with a quartet of stylised lotus flowers issuing from curling leafy stems below a band containing the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang), all on a vivid yellow ground, the recessed base inscribed with a four-character xie zhu zhu ren mark in iron-red within a square cartouche

NOTE:
Xiezhu zhuren may be translated as 'Master of the Xie Bamboo'. Xie (cutting), is the name of a valley in the Kunlun mountains, and it is said that there, during the reign of the 'Yellow Emperor' Huangdi, the first musical scale was made from varying lengths of cut bamboo.
