A RAJPUT RULER'S BUST PORTRAIT
Possibly Jaipur or Kishangarh, Rajasthan, North-Western India, late 18th century
Opaque pigments heightened with gold and black ink on wove paper, the vertical composition portraying a Rajput ruler wearing a white robe and a white turban enhanced by golden tassels, his forehead and neck marked by the typical Hindu tilaka with sandalwood and turmeric paste, the portrait set on a light green background, mounted, glazed and framed, approximately 10cm x 7cm excluding the frame.
