Notes:

See a comparable vase of ovoid form offered at Bonhams Hong, 27 May 2012, lot 621. A meiping vase offered at Sotheby's New York, 22 November 2024, lot 84.

Ge Mingxiang lived and worked during the Qianlong period. He was noted for his stoneware collaboration with his brother Ge Yuanxiang, and the 'Ge Kiln' was commonly known. The Ge brothers are said to have created the 'Yijun' technique, a combination of the mottled blue Jun-type glaze and purple clay pottery, which was imitated by many in succeeding periods.

For another jun-glazed meiping with Ge Mingxiang's mark, refer to Gerard C.C. Tsang ed. 'Yixing Pottery', Hong Kong, 1981, p.103, p.103. A Ge Minxiang-signed oviform vase is in the collection of the V&A, acc. no. 295-1905, and is illustrated in Kerr, Rose 'Yixing Wares in the V&A" in Orientations, Vol. 14, no. 10; October 1983.

Estimated at £500 - £700
