Cutch with import marks for Glasgow 1897 by George Edward and Sons
A late 19th century Anglo – Indian silver sugar caster

Raj period. Of cylindrical form upon a domed foot, the pull off lid with domed top surmounted by a ball finial. The side with a rectangular cartouche section engraved with initials MNA in gothic script cypher. The body with lid with chased decoration of foliate scrolls and rosettes, the sides with hunting animals, also including peacocks. Fully marked to base and lid.

Height – 18.5 cm / 7.2 inches

Weight – 307 grams / 9.87 ozt

Notes:

It is interesting to note that this object has clearly been made from a scroll holder, adapted for a distinctly western use.
