MANUSCRIPT, probably illuminated by the Hippolyta Master (fl. 1440-75) - a fine 15th-century illuminated manuscript Grant of Land in Latin, dated 20 March 1443, on vellum, in a small elegant cursive hand, with a highly elaborate "biscione" armorial initial of Visconti, the Duke of Milan, together with the coat-of-arms of Milan, a further unidentified coat-of-arms, floral decorations, all in vivid colours and lavishly heightened in gold, approximately 285 x 475mm, framed and glazed. A typed note on the verso of the frame states: "Filipino Maria Visconti, duke of Milan. Grant of land 'inter vinos prata et Molendina nostra to Feroffinus Secvretanus, and his heirs, Milan 20 March 1443. Possibly illuminated by the Hippolyta Master, the court illuminator." PLEASE NOTE that the sale of this lot at Chiswick Auctions on 30 September 2015 was cancelled as our dimensions of the manuscript were given inaccurately in the catalogue description, and for no other reason. The current dimensions are correct.
