Ruskin (John)

Ruskin (John)

Autograph letter from John Ruskin to 'Tenzo' [Marion Watson], replying to a letter received from 'Tenzo' , gushing "Your letter is quite the prettiest and most graceful I ever received...' and going on to compliment her on her 'play", then paying her more compliments and flirts, finally signing it 'From your loving Sire', two pages, 8vo, headed notepaper of Ruskin's home Brantwood, Coniston, Lancashire, 25 January 1887.

Marion (Tenzo) Watson and her cousin Lizzie Watson (later L. Allen Harker) stayed at Brantwood at the end of January 1887 much to the despair of Ruskin of Joan Severn, his cousin and eventual heir, as she feared the two girls would 'over-excite' Ruskin.
