Gill (Eric)

Gill (Eric)

A rare collection of autograph and typed letters signed ('Eric Gill'), all addressed to Mr Alan Warwick, including: an autograph letter regarding a draft of an article, saying "I have taken the liberty to alter it wherever I thought fit...Your typescript though very good on the whole was a bit scrappy and disjointed, I have improved it a bit I think and removed a few unnecessary items or ideas which seemed to me likely to confuse the reader...I Think you'd better say that the article is an 'interview' with same quotations added. Otherwise it looks like an article by me and that wouldn't do because it's not quite my style of composition", two pages, minor creasing, 4to, "In train", 8 December 1934; a typed letter reading in part "I wish you could find it possible to maintain a more even balance between males and females in your pictures. I know there are difficulties, but at present there are about 40 photographs of girls to 2 of men and this does, undoubtedly, give the enemy a handle; for they say (it was said to me only last night) people join sun-bathing clubs and buy the Sunbathing Review only in order to see girls without any clothes", one page, additional handwritten note at close, 4to, Pigotts, High Wycombe, 8 April 1935; a typed letter saying "I don't know if I shall be able to write anything for you as I am overwhelmed with work at present but I will shortly send you a pamphlet on 'Trousers' which perhaps you will like to review and if you wish to use extracts from it I shall be quite pleased for you to do so", one page, crease on the left-hand side, 4to, Pigotts, High Wycombe, 24 April 1937; with five other notes, mostly mentioning proofs and typescripts, v.s., 6 December 1934-1 May 1937 (8)
