A George IV sterling silver gilt snuff box, London 1828 by Charles Rawlings (this mark. 28th Oct 1819)

Cartouche form, with a hinged lid with a chased foliate rim, otherwise with engine turned decoration. The interior engraved with a presentation inscription reading “This TRIFLE was presented as a humble tribute of five grateful Hearts to their ever respectful uncle William Richard Glasier Esq., in token of the sense they entertain for the very fatherly consideration he has ever evinced for the welfare and comfort of the donors from their earliest youth. June 1828.” Fully marked to the base and a part-marked to lid.

Weight – 134 grams / 4.31 ozt

William Richard Glasier (1778 - 18th May 1852) and was buried in St Mary’s Graville-l'Heure, France (Le cimetière Sainte-Marie). Son of William and Hannah Glasier of Poole’s Building baptised 7th March 1779. He had a brother George Glasier (b. 1777) married to Mary Winterbourne (1777-1838) on the 28th July 1803 whom had issue with a daughter Betsy Glasier (b.1808) and son William Richard Glasier (1811-1893).
