Hull studied architectural design before the Second World War and is most known for his radiant abstract watercolours. Executed a year before Hull's first solo show at the Brook Street Gallery in London, the present work is a particularly rare piece showcasing the artist's response to Surrealism at the beginning of his artistic career.
