Provenance: Purchased by the present owner in Zimbabwe in 1997.
Claud Nyanhongo was part of the first generation of Zimbabwean modernist artists and although his work has not often appeared at auction he has been featured in numerous major exhibitions of Zimbabwean sculpture. Exhibitions include:
1981 Retrospective Exhibition of Shona Sculpture, Zimbabwe House, London, UK
1982 Contemporary Shona Sculpture, The Mall Galleries, London, UK
1990 Sculptures Contemporaines du Zimbabwe, Musée National des Africains et Oceaniens, Paris, France.
A similar example of his work, also in green serpentine, is in the British Museum, London, Inv. No. Af1996,18.36.
