A TWELVE SIDED BRUYERE WOOD AND EBONY CASKET AND COVER BY HUGH BIRKETT, BRITISH, (1919-2002)
The cover with a pear shaped finial, applied with wedge shaped segmented panels, with conforming rectangular panels to base, on a moulded foot, stamped to base, 19 H.B 86, 25cm high, 30.5cm diameter, together with a pair of hexagonal bruyere wood panelled boxes and covers by Hugh Birkett, with facetted finials and a pair of square briar wood and walnut square caddies and covers by Hugh Birkett, all stamped to the bases, the hexagonal boxes 25cm high, the caddies 13cm high (5)

Hugh Birkett was a furniture maker and master craftsman who was influenced by the work of both Ernest Gimson and Edward Barnsley. He set up his own workshop in 1949 in Solihull and then moved to Moreton-in-Marsh in 1966, where he continued to work making furniture in the Arts and Crafts tradition.
