A QAJAR MINIATURE QUR'AN
Iran, with ownership stamps dating 1229 AH (1813)

Arabic manuscript on paper, 206ff. plus three fly-leaves, each folio with 21ll. of black naskh script, gold roundels as aya markers, gold and polychrome illuminated cusped medallions to the margins, red sura headings against a golden background, gold crenelated rules, black outer rules, catchwords, the text preceded by an illuminated folio predominantly in gold and red containing preparatory prayers, the opening bifolio intricately illuminated in polychromes with gold interlinear clouds, the following bifolio with floral trellis all across the borders, the opening bifolio and last page marked with black ink ownership stamp reading Seyyed Mohammad Ibrahim 1229, set in a polychrome-painted and lacquered binding with a floral bloom of roses, hyacinths and carnations, the doublures in gilt scrolling floral motifs against black, the spine in reddish-brown leather, the text panel 8.3cm x 4.2cm, the folio 11.5cm x 7.4cm.
