A mid-20th century French 950 standard silver and 18 carat gold mounted compact, Paris dated 1954, retailed by Cartier

Of rectangular form with a push release, the thumbpiece formed as applied gold rope work, ribbed decoration flanking plain central bands. The top engraved Elisabeth and 1954. The interior with a mirror and powder pads, one branded Cartier. Marked to base and mirror mount with French control mark and makers mark SAA with device of an urn? (unidentified), the gold thumbpiece with control mark. Housed in original box, gilt tooling.
