A MAMLUK-REVIVAL ENAMELLED CLEAR GREEN GLASS MOSQUE LAMP
Possibly France or North Africa, late 19th - 20th century
Of typical globular shape, on a concave base, rising to an everted conical neck with a wide circular mouth, with three glass hanging hoops on the shoulders, the body painted in black, red and gold with a variety of cusped pseudo-thuluth calligraphic cartouches against vegetal scrolls and floral sprays, with concentric bands of decorative fretwork around the centre of the body and below the rim, the iron chains with white and blue glass beads a later addition, 25.5cm high excluding the chains.
