A CHINESE SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF AN IMMORTAL MAIDEN.

Qing Dynasty.

The young lady carved in a cold-painted celadon stone, standing, wearing a flowing robe with an ornamental ruyi head collar and hair arranged in a tall chignon, holding a vase in both her hands, raised on a black soapstone stand carved as a porous rock, 25.5cm H.

Provenance: a British Diplomatic Collection, acquired in Beijing prior to 1953.
