A CHINESE GLASS INSIDE-PAINTED 'LANDSCAPE' SNUFF BOTTLE, BY ZHOU LEYUAN.

Qing Dynasty, dated Wuzi in accordance with 1888.

The ovoid body painted in sepia and grey with a continuous view of a village, a boy driving an ox to one side and figures in a raft on a river to the reverse, signed Leyuan, 7cm H.

Provenance: an English private collection.

Zhou Leyuan was active between 1879 and 1893 and was founder of a popular school of painting in Beijing. This gave him an influence over the development of the styles of his students and he is considered one of the most painters of inside-painted snuff bottles.
