A late 18th century French gold, enamel and ivory carnet-de-bal (souvenir d'amitié), circa 1780
Of tapering rectangular form, one side with an enamel plaque of an S below and Earl’s coronet, glazed, edged with opaque white enamel, the other side with a platted hairwork plaque, glazed. The hinged lid set to each side with an engraved plague, one engraved SOUVENIR, the other CHERI. The interior with three pierced ivory aide-mémoire sheaths.
