A POLYCHROME-ENAMELLED COPPER ALLOY BRAZIER Ottoman Provinces, late 19th - 20th century Comprising a tall, urn-shaped brazier, the body modelled on a ringed stem, with a floral collar and dome-shaped lid, sitting on a lobed table-top, the decoration consisting of several panels of geometric, architectural and vegetal motifs divided in bands, calligraphic roundels at the top and more geometric abstract patterns on the table-top, 58.5cm x 70.5cm. The shape of this brazier must have surely been inspired by an European model. The body's design is reminiscent of porcelain fruit bowls used in France and Germany around the mid-19th century, another evidence of how certain shapes and decorations fluidly moved from one background onto another.
