A mid-18th century English enamel bonbonniere or table snuffbox, Staffordshire circa 1760
Of circular form, the gently domed lid with a base metal mount with a stand-away hinge and shaped thumbpiece. The body with a pink ground with gilt trellis work, the lid with a bucolic scene of a shepherd and two ewes on a riverbank, with woodland and houses in the background, reserved in white rocaille C scrolls. The sides with four cartouches of flower sprays against a white ground reserved the same.
