A SAFAVID TURQUOISE MONOCHROME POTTERY EWER AND BASIN
Iran, 17th century
Comprising a turquoise-glazed ewer, of pyriform shape, resting on a reinforced circular base, rising to a tall faceted neck with a ring in the middle and a slightly everted rim, the bud-like stopper also faceted, to one side a curved handle reminiscent of earlier metalworks' dragon handles, to the latter a tall faceted spout, with an applied stellar decoration to the spout, 35cm high; and a matching basin, with pierced geometric and floral decoration to the centre, 11cm high and 24cm diam.
