The circular mirror centered with a raised knob formed as a recumbent lion, the inner field cast in relief to depict five mythical beasts enclosed within a raised sawtooth border, the outer band with the twelve Zodiac animals encircled by a raised rim decorated with sawtooth, undulating leafy stem, and dotted diamond patterns,
21.5cm diameter, weight approx. 1.72kg

REFERENCE:
A related mirror, dated to the Tang Dynasty, also with five muscular animals racing around the knop and the twelve animals of the zodiac, is illustrated in 'Bronze Mirrors from the Shanghai Museum Collection', Shanghai, 1987, no. 71.
A related Tang Dynasty mirror was sold at Christie's New York, 16th September 2010, lot 911.
