Comprising a Changsha pottery alms bowl decorated with a straw-coloured glaze that falls in an uneven line around the body, revealing a dark-coloured body beneath, together with a small circular box and cover, a globular pot, an iron ring, a pottery stand, a flat cover, a water pot of compressed form, a small jar and an unglazed pot,

PROVENANCE:

Previously in the collection of Oleg P. Peresypkin, a long-term Ukrainian resident of Shanghai and later Hong Kong;

Later inherited by Augustus Fletcher (1928-2020), thence by descent [see image of receipt].

From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency. He later served the British Government in Hong Kong and New Delhi.
