A good Victorian sterling silver gilt mounted glass claret jug, Sheffield 1879 by William and George Sissons
The clear glass body of rounded form upon a rounded star cut foot, the body with finely wheel engraved decoration of three storks among bull rushes attended to by insects in a pond with a tall alocasia. The neck mount with embossed decoration of strapwork scrolls and acanthus leaves against a textured ground, a vacant oval cartouche to one side, the short pouring spout opposite a beaded loop handle, leading to a hinged stepped lid raised by a pierced chair back thumbpiece, the lid similarly embossed. Fully marked to the side and part-marked to the lid.
