PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR
Iran, 17th - 18th century

Of compressed circular shape, on a gently rounded plain base, with narrow shoulders and a flared cylindrical neck ending in a reinforced circular rim, the exterior engraved with three main decorative bands, the largest band with scrolling split palmette tendrils against a ground of spiralling rosette sprays, their leaves joining and forming ogival arch-shaped niches, above it a continuous band with quatrefoil and leafy trellis, around the neck a calligraphic band with the names of the Shi'a Imams against hatched ground, fringes near the base and fretwork on the rim, 14.6cm diam. and 11cm high.
