AN EXTREMELY FINE SILK & METAL THREAD HEREKE PRAYER RUG, TURKEY approx: 4ft.2in. x 2ft.10in.(127cm. x 86cm.) The ivory field with stylised flowering vase, polychrome palmettes and flowering and leafy vine. Floral and arabesque mihrab above. In sandy yellow border of serrated palmettes, floral and leafy vine between arabesque, zig-zag and plain stripes. This rug has full pile, very soft silk quality and is in very good condition throughout. Both ends and selvages original. Extremely fine weave, approx:10 x 10 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. Very elegant and fine example for this type.
