Comprising thirteen palm leaf manuscripts, including a compendium on diseases and how to cure them (Ayurveda Probeshika - Part I and II), part I 3.5cm x 37cm, part II 3.2cm x 35cm (average leaf size); a Rasanuraga (Part I and II), a selection of stories of Lord Krishna including his romance, mistakes and misunderstandings, part I 3.8cm x 33.5cm, part II 2.8cm x 30.5cm (average leaf size); a Maghamahatmya, a diary account from January to December, 3cm x 31.5cm (average leaf size); a compendium on spiritualism and Hindu beliefs (Kalakamodi), 3.2cm x 36cm (average leaf size); a compendium on the planets and Hindu astrology (Grahastatramala), 3.5cm x 28.5cm (average leaf size); and six other palm leaf manuscripts, each one with their original top and bottom wood manuscript covers, some engraved and painted, others plain, the largest 3.5cm x 46cm (average leaf size) all contained in a contemporary Anglo-Indian brass-bound campaign-style wooden travel case, and accompanied by an inventory list, covering letter and invoices dated 17 February 1972.

Purchased in the small town of Raj-Ranpur, District of Puri, 63 km southwest of the state capital Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India, on 17 February 1972, by the present owner's father. The original invoice features an impressive collection of 74 manuscripts, most of which have been sold by the family in the past. The group of thirteen manuscripts offered in our sale is what remains of this scholarly collection.
