AN ANTIQUE PAIR OF HAMSEH LONG RUGS, SOUTH-WEST PERSIA approx: each, 9ft.6in. x 3ft.5in.(289cm. x 104cm.) Very nice pair of long rugs form Hamseh weaving. The field with serrated rosettes and stylised birds around a single column of hooked and linked pole medallions containing similar motifs. In an ivory border of polychrome palmette vine between floral and barber-pole stripes. Ends with chequered skirt, kilim and fringes, more associated with Qashqai tribe. Selvages original with touches of fraying on cord. Very slight wear to the top pile. Rugs were woven on wool warps. In general both pieces are in very good usable condition. Unusual to have this type woven as pair, seldom found in the sales. Attractive and very good furnishing pieces.
