According to Dr. Ermanno Bellucci the present work is by Pietro Cappellli. Little is known about the artist, who lived in Naples and died young. Trained in the studio of Francesco Solimena, Cappelli is believed to have painted predominently architectural scenes and was a fierce competitor to Leonardo Coccorante.
