A THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY FRENCH NAPOLEON III GILT BRONZE AND SERVES PORCELAIN MANTEL CLOCK

A THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY FRENCH NAPOLEON III GILT BRONZE AND SERVES PORCELAIN MANTEL CLOCK circa 1860, probably made in Paris, the rectangular case with canted corners with female masks terminating in 'pieds de biche', the laurel bordered base on four toupie feet, the caddy top with acanthus moulding supporting a porcelain urn decorated with flowers and garden tools and pineapple finial, the porcelain panels painted with scenes heighted in gilt and jewelling, the dial panel with a reclining female figure playing a flute to a dancing cupid and central roundel of a cupid, the side panels with musical trophies, the painted, gilt and jewelled dial with black Roman numerals, the twin train movement striking the full and half hours on a bell (bell and striking hammer lacking), the backplate stamped 'A 1' in an oval and numbered '4719' and '4, 4', 41cm high
