Painted the same year they got married, the present work is completed at the hight of Church’s love for her new husband. The bold colours and strong lines give s particular sense of structure and the stark contract between the white pages and dark colours of the sitter’s clothing draw one’s attention to the book and revoke his professional focus as a writer.
