A GREY SCHIST CARVED FRIEZE WITH MEDITATING BUDDHAS
PROPERTY FROM THE MOITA COLLECTION OF GANDHARA ART
Ancient region of Gandhara, 2nd - 3rd century

Of rectangular shape, gently curved, the centre of the frieze divided in three horizontal panels repeating the same scene with haloed Buddhas in meditation in the lotus position and holding the dhyana mudra, sitting on a high throne and flanked by two standing attendants, each panel separated by a Corinthian capital, on a stepped base and surmounted by a lattice of overhanging wooden beams, 12cm x 35.3cm.
