Amorini playing
red chalk with white heightenings, pricked for transfer and blackened with chalk on the verso
530 x 410 mm (20 2/3 X 16 in.)

The present work is a copy after the two amorini featured in one of the four corners of the vault in the gallery of the Palazzo Farnese The Loves of the Gods, in Rome. Several series of prints after the frescoes in the Farnese Gallery were produced from the end of the seventeenth century onwards. Both pricked and blackened on the verso, these pricked methods could have been used in the creation of a reversed image for printing.

Estimated at £800 - £1,000
