GEORGE CHINNERY RHA (BRITISH 1774-1852)
Cattle in an Indian village

pencil on wove paper
17 x 24 cm (6 1/2 x 9 1/2 in)

Provenance:
Spink, St. James's, London

The present study shows Chinnery's distinctive shorthand which he used on each sketch or sheet, using a cross (+) to mark those works he liked and wished to use again, and an 'x' to identify those with which he was less pleased. He used the common 18th-century system of shorthand devised by Thomas Gurney (1705-1770)
