Miniature Book.- Kempis (Thomas à) De imitatione Christi, engraved frontispiece featuring faint ownership notes, some light spotting throughout, contemporary À la Du Seuil’ burgundy morocco, double filet borders and cornerpieces to covers, spine in compartments and richly gilt with floral and foliage tools, a.e.g., one very tiny hole to spine, marbled pastedowns, [Brunet, III, 415; Bulletin des Arts, 1846-47, V, vol. 5], 24mo, C. Angot via Jacobea (publisher), Paris – Elzevir (printer), Leiden, [c. 1640?]

*** Rare edition of this emblematic Christian work next to the Bible, printed in Leiden, and in fine binding, À la Du Seuil’. Augustine De Seuil was a French bookbinder, famous for very elegant bindings, generally adorned with thin golden threads, ending at the corners with flower shapes.
