FOUR COPTIC TEXTILE FRAGMENTS Circa 4th - 6th Century A.D. Including a rectangular fragment, depicting a nude dancing couple within the arch of an arcade, in dark purple wool, 28cm high, 24cm long; two fragments mounted in the same frame, both with dancing nude figures in dark purple wool, 31cm long, 26cm high; and a fragment depicting a nude dancing figure in red wool, wearing a bright red sash, 19cm high, 14cm long, (3) Provenance: George Anastase Michaelides (1900-1973), acquired in Egypt during 1930s-1940s and exported to London in the 1940s; UK collection, acquired in London from the daughter of George Michaelides in the early 1970s; Bonham's, London, Antiquities, 1 April 2014, lot 223; private collection, London, acquired in the above auction.
